One-on-One Coaching

One-on-One Coaching

The thing no one tells you about becoming a senior leader is how lonely it can be. What you say carries the weight of your position, so you have to mind your words. There are fewer people you can lean on for support. Yet you have organization-spanning concerns weighing on you.

In our one-on-one sessions, we work on the topics and concerns that are top of mind for you. Depending on what you need at any given time, I can play the role of coach, advisor, or sounding board.

Sometimes that means I ask questions to understand your goals (or to help you see when you already know the answer to your questions). Sometimes I share my own experiences as an executive leading organizations through change, navigating complex technical challenges, or handling difficult personnel situations. Sometimes I offer tools or resources. And sometimes I’m a sympathetic ear, listening as you talk things out.

Structure and Logistics

We meet over Zoom on a regular cadence. It could be weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Our sessions are 60 minutes long.

Our sessions are for you. You bring your challenges and set the agenda. The intent is for every session to provide immediate value, whether that means you walk away with a fresh perspective, new tools in your toolbox, more alternatives, better decision criteria, greater clarity, renewed confidence, or just validation that you were on the right path all along.

If you do not have a specific thing that you want to work on, we will work together to choose a topic. However, you are always in the driver’s seat. If you feel a session is not providing value, I’m counting on you to let me know and work with me to shift our focus in a direction that would be more productive for you.

That said, there are some topics that are out of scope for our work together. My focus is on supporting you at work and as a professional. Our work together is not an alternative for therapy, and I am not qualified to advise you on anything related to mental illness, addiction, family dynamics, or any other personal or health problem better handled with a credentialed clinician.

Confidentiality

All our discussions are entirely confidential. Even if your employer is paying for our sessions, I do not report the content of our discussions to them.

Cost

Individual coaching is billed on a pay-as-you-go basis at my standard hourly rate. After the session you’ll receive an invoice payable by credit card.

Each session is scheduled to be 60m. The rate does not change if the session happens to end early or run late. You only pay for our sessions; everything else we use or do in preparation for, during, or as a follow up to our sessions is included in the fee. This includes access to any tools or artifacts we use during the sessions, any materials I provide you such as suggested readings or exercises, and any time I spend on coordination activities such as scheduling or sending follow up messages.

Either one of us can end this arrangement at any time. More specifically: you are not obligated to use any particular number of sessions and do not need to give me a reason for ending our work together (although I always appreciate feedback).
